This is a Wheatstone Aeola 56-Key Tenor-Treble with steel reeds. It has been fitted with new pads, valves and straps, and tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz).
Here is a rare opportunity to own a Wheatstone Tenor-Treble Aeola from Wheatstone’s top period for as low of a price as you’ll find anywhere. Of course, there are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, the ends aren’t in the best condition- showing signs of finger wear and a few marks on the fretwork. The main reason, however, is that whilst they air airtight, the bellows have been patched internally quite extensively at some point in time. Of course, there was the temptation for us to fully refurbish the concertina, but we believe it’s nice to have a concertina such as this in stock at a price that might be much more affordable to somebody who isn’t too bothered about the issues mentioned. So now for the positives. This is a fantastic playing concertina as you’d expect from an Aeola of this period. It is responsive and comes with that gorgeous wooden-ended Aeola tone- slightly softer but without lacking any volume or dynamics. £3000 is definitely cheap for an instrument of this quality, but we would rather take less money for a concertina and be honest about its shortcomings.
