This is a Wheatstone 48-Key Baritone with brass reeds. It has been fitted with new pads and valves, and tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz).
The serial number of this concertina is 7817.
As you can see from the pictures, this is a really beautiful instrument with the gold inlays in the fretwork and the gold-tooled bellows. It has good quality Wheatstone brass reeds which give it a mellow, almost harmonium-like tone. It is, however, a very early Wheatstone concertina, and as a result, it isn’t the quickest player in the world. This isn’t a concertina you’d use for tune playing, but its beautiful tone would make it ideal for song accompaniment.
