This is a Lachenal ‘Boyd’ 56-Key Extended-Treble with steel reeds. It has been fitted with new pads, valves, bellows and straps, and been tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz).

Concertina aficionados will probably already be saying ‘that’s not a Boyd’ after seeing this listing due to the fact that the name Boyd isn’t cut into the metal ends of this concertina. Technically that is correct, and which is why the instrument is a good chunk of money cheaper than a standard Boyd would be. However, this concertina was sold by Boyd in Newcastle and has all of the characteristics of a Boyd- a very fast player with a bright tone and plenty of dynamic range with a slightly shorter action. Boyd was an instrument dealer in Newcastle who requested specific builders from both Lachenal and Wheatstone to produce this model of concertina, and had a large number of them made.

This is the perfect concertina for any session player or Morris musician.
