This is a Wheatstone 46-Key Maccann with raised metal ends and steel reeds. It has been fitted with new pads, valves and straps, and tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz). The serial number of this concertina is 30008/30088 (the third digit is very difficult to read).

This is an interesting concertina, mainly due to the fact that it’s quite rare to see a Maccann Duet with a smaller number of keys on a higher-end model instrument (in this case, a Raised-ended Wheatstone). Either way, it’s a lovely thing, and plays as you would expect from a top-period Wheatstone concertina. It is responsive with a lovely tone which isn’t at all harsh or piercing- very well balanced.

Whilst serious Maccann players would usually be looking for something with more buttons, this is just a really lovely and well-made instrument which will suit somebody perfectly.
