This is a Wheatstone 40-Key Anglo in C/G with steel reeds. It has been fitted with new pads and vales, and tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz). The serial number is 30912.

We can be guilty ourselves of always talking about Jeffries concertinas when it comes to discussing top-range anglos, and we perhaps don’t give attention to some of the absolutely fantastic instruments that Wheatstone made- some players actively prefer Wheatstones over Jeffries as tone is a subjective thing and the two are quite different. This concertina is a fantastic Wheatstone anglo (39-keys + a drone), and it’s a really lovely player- extremely responsive and fast. The left hand has a really nice softer tone whilst still being loud, and the right hand is brighter and really cuts through. It’s the perfect balance for somebody playing tunes with chords. It also comes from Wheatstone’s top period, so it is very well built with very high-quality reeds. The ends have standard finger-wear but, apart from that, this is a very tidy concertina.
