This is a Jeffries Bros 30-Key Anglo in Bb/F with steel reeds. It has been fitted with new 6-fold bellows, pads, valves and straps, and tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz).

This is a concertina made by the Jeffries brothers- the sons of Charles Jeffries. Their instruments were slightly inconsistent, and definitely not quite at the same level of craftsmanship as the concertinas that came before. However, this is a very good anglo concertina that still showcases that trademark ‘Jeffries tone’ that is so desirable. The concertinas they made were slightly bigger and bulkier than the earlier Jeffries, which is worth noting. This is a responsive concertina with a lovely, rich tone- helped by the lower pitch of the reeds in comparison with a C/G. Concertinas in keys other than C/G are becoming more and more popular, so we don’t expect this one to be around for long.
