This is a Wheatstone Mayfair 30-Key Treble with accordion reeds. It is as it was made, and is ever-so-slightly sharp of concert pitch (A=440hz) due to a number of Wheatstones being tuned in the factory with a tuning fork that wasn’t quite accurate. This difference in tuning wouldn’t be too noticable against other instruments.

Wheatstone Mayfairs are generally great instruments for somebody to learn on. The accordion reeds make them much more responsive and quick than other concertinas around this price range, although obviously some level of concertina tone is sacrificed for this. It’s a very light instrument too, which is often desirable. We don’t specialise in accordion-reeded instrument, so to get this concertina to its absolute full potential it would be best going to somebody with some prior knowledge of working with accordions, but it is a fully playing instrument at a fair price, so any beginner would be perfectly happy with it.
