This is a Rock Chidley 48-Key Baritone with brass reeds. It has been fitted with new pads, valves and straps, and been tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz).
Whilst older concertinas tend to be less responsive and less usable as quality instruments in the modern day, this Rock Chidley Baritone goes against that. It’s a very nice player in very good condition- it is responsive, with a lovely mellow and warm tone due to the brass reeds and unchambered reed pans. The original 5-fold bellows are well-made, and aren’t restrictive in the slightest- although it obviously won’t be able to handle incredibly long sustained chords like a top 6/7-fold set would be able to.
This instrument has ivory buttons and has an ivory exemption certificate due to it being an antique. This means it cannot be sold to the EU, and anyone wanting to purchase from outside the UK will need to check their country’s laws on importing ivory. If purchased within the UK, you won’t need to get your own ivory exemption certificate unless you are planning to sell the instrument, in which case the certificate will cost £20.
