This is a Wheatstone Raised-Ended Treble with steel reeds. It has been fitted with new pads, valves, straps and bellows, and has been tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz).

As you may notice from the pictures, this concertina is made slightly differently to other black concertinas. A lot of instruments that we’d refer to as being ‘ebony-ended’ are actually ebonised- finished to look like ebony. This is made from real ebony, which is more premium but also more fragile, and you can see that there are a couple of cracks on the ebony on one side of the instrument. It is a good player with a nice set of Wheatstone reeds.
