This is a Wheatstone Aeola 64-Key Tenor-Treble which also extends above the normal treble range too. It has been fitted with a set of new pads in recent years, and we have also fitted a new set of valves and re-finished the ends on top of that. It has been tuned to concert pitch.
The serial number of this instrument is 35634. Whilst Wheatstone’s later instruments are commonly understood to be weaker than the concertinas that came before them, it does mean that instruments like this are much more affordable than their older counterparts. The ends have been refinished, as the finish Wheatstone used during this people shows up dinks and marks very clearly.
Whilst the extended-treble range of the concertina most players wouldn’t utilise today and would see as a nuisance due to the added weight of the reeds, this concertina has half of the reed-frames made from aluminium as opposed to brass, which makes it extremely light- even though is has 64-Keys. It plays fairly fast, and whilst the reeds aren’t the best Wheatstone made by any means, they are still a solid set of steel reeds. A chance to own a Wheatstone Aeola Tenor-Treble whilst saving a fair bit of money.
