This is a Wheatstone 48-Key Treble Aeola with ebony ends. It has been fitted with new pads, valves and straps, and a set of 6-fold bellows. It has been tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz).
This is both a really beautiful instrument and a lovely playing concertina too. Its serial number places it around the end of Wheatstone’s best period, before the instruments started to lose a lot in quality. The Wheatstone Aeola is the pinnacle of the English concertina, and whilst the metal-ended models were deemed higher quality at the time, their wooden-ended counterparts are much more sought after today due to their more gentle and balanced tone.
A later-period equivalent of this instrument recently sold in auction, and after taking auctioneer/online auction site commission into account, it went for around £3,600- and it needed some restoration. Here is your chance to own a better period, better quality instrument for the right price, along with the Barleycorn 1-year guarantee against any major issues.
