This is an extremely rare Wheatstone Aeola 48-Key Piccolo. It has been fitted with new pads, valves and thumb-straps, and tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz).

Prior to finding this concertina, we’ve seen one of these out of 12,000 concertinas that have been and gone from our stock, which should give you some idea of just how rare it is to find a Piccolo- yet alone a Wheatstone Aeola. For those of you who don’t know, a Piccolo is a standard 48-Key Treble layout but all of the notes are an octave higher and the instrument is smaller, at 5 and 1/2 inches wide (pictured next to a standard-sized Aeola for context).

This instrument is a very good player, as you might expect from a Wheatstone from this period, and has a lovely tone. It has extremely good playability.
