This is an extremely rare Wheatstone 48-Key Treble with raised Amboyna ends, gold-plated fittings and steel reeds. It has been fitted with new pads, valves and straps, and tuned to concert pitch (A=440hz). The serial number of this instrument is 26439, meaning it was made in July 1914 (according to the Wheatstone ledgers.)

It goes without saying that this is an absolutely beautiful musical instrument. Amboyna concertinas always look fantastic in our opinion, but they’re often matched with a fairly unattractive set of brown leather bellows. We much prefer instruments like this which were made with these black 5-fold bellows which matches the black chamfered-edge of the ends perfectly. Instruments of this quality and using this wood were made rarely, so you know you’re getting some of Wheatstone’s top work here. Top quality steel reeds make this concertina a joy to play- fast and with a balanced tone. You’ll struggle to see something as nice as this in the world of treble concertinas unless you were to find an amboyna Aeola, which do exist but are just as rare.

There is a slight crack on the right side of the instrument next to the little finger plate, but the rest of the instrument is in pretty perfect and original condition. It comes with its original hardcase which is in decent condition.
